The Bromfield girls soccer team remains first in the Mid-Wach D League after winning games last week against Maynard, 4-1, and Leominster, 3-0.
On Thursday, Sept. 20, the Trojans traveled to Maynard to challenge the Tigers. Sophomore Bella Kehoe was the top scorer, bringing in two goals. Sophomore Olivia Kehoe followed with one goal and an assist, and freshman Natalia Dutkewych added another. Ally Roach scored the Tigers’ only goal. Maynard now stands third in the league, with a 1-2 record.
On Monday, Sept. 24, Bromfield faced the Leominster Blue Devils in a home game at McCurdy Track. Although the Trojans struggled to find a rhythm at the start of the game, with repeated opponent incursions onto their side, the players soon picked up their tempo. Striker Olivia Kehoe scored the Trojans’ first goal 12 minutes into the game on a breakaway, and her sister, Bella Kehoe, brought in Bromfield’s next goal with an impressive shot from outside the penalty box. Leominster fought back persistently and had several close shots in the first half. Bromfield freshman Katie Iacomini added the third and final goal in the second half.
Both the Trojans and the Blue Devils volleyed the ball repeatedly throughout the afternoon, and players attempted to head the ball into the net off corner kicks. Bromfield struggled with passing at times, accidentally sending the ball to an empty field or opponents.
Freshman Annabel Ashe served as goalie in the first half, and senior Bryn Pierce replaced her in the second.
Leominster falls last in the Mid Wach B League, with a 0-3 league record.
Bromfield’s current league record is 2-0, and its overall record is 5-1-0. The Trojans’ next game will be Wednesday, Sept. 26, against Quabbin Regional High School (3-2-1). Currently second in the Mid-Wach C League, Quabbin has a 2-0-1 league record.
