After two years as associate principal at Hildreth Elementary School, Scott Mulcahy announced earlier this week that he is leaving to take a position at the Nelson Place Elementary School in Worcester.
School Superintendent Linda Dwight said the search for Mulcahy’s successor has already begun with a posting on SchoolSpring, an educational search website. Dwight said she expects some strong candidates to apply, but she is not expecting any internal candidates because no one now at Hildreth has the necessary certifications.
Dwight made a strong case last March for granting Mulcahy—along with several other administrators—a stipend in addition to his regular salary. The stipends, she said at the time, were honoraria for administrators whose work far exceeded expectations. Asked about the issue after Mulcahy’s resignation, Dwight said he had earned the stipend with the work he had already completed when he received it. “It was well deserved even though it didn’t keep him with us,” she said.
Mulcahy came to Hildreth in July 2017 after two years as an assistant principal at the Josiah Haynes Elementary School in Sudbury.
