On a beautiful Saturday afternoon last week, we had the pleasure of boating out on Bare Hill Pond. The water was as clear as we have ever seen it. We noted the eagle nest on one of the islands. Signs of a healthy watershed.
We fully support the Bare Hill Pond Watershed Management Committee’s plans to continue the policy of drawing down the pond to manage the proliferation of invasive plant species and conditions that result in algae blooms.
We specifically oppose the use of herbicides. The proposal to use herbicides seems especially unwise when the current system of managing is effectively working.
As a town we are indeed fortunate to have such a wonderful resource. Careful stewardship is required. We thank the Bare Hill Pond Watershed Management Committee for their hard work over many years.
