The Bromfield boys soccer team brought home the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 state championship trophy last night, Nov. 21, shutting out the No. 5 seed Rockland Bulldogs 1-0 before an enthusiastic crowd of supporters at Doyle Stadium in Leominster.
Co-captain Conor Glew scored the winning goal with an assist from his twin brother Liam with approximately six minutes remaining in the first half. The Bulldogs never recovered.
Bromfield’s defense has been fearsome all season, and Friday night was no exception. It was the team’s 19th consecutive shutout, including all five of the team’s post season’s games. The championship was Bromfield’s 14th since 1979. Bromfield last won the title in 2022 when it defeated Sutton 3-0. The team bus was escorted back to town by the flashing lights and sirens of Harvard police and fire vehicles.
The game was played under the lights with no breeze and temperatures in the mid-40s. The Bromfield section of the stands was packed. One fan held a sign that seemed to sum up the evening: “Glew telepathy,” it read.
