‘Dangerous’ dog owner dies; dog to be returned to Buddy Dog

November 7, 2025

Robert Rapant, 61, died at his Mass. Ave. home Oct. 31. A 911 caller summoned emergency medical services to the scene.

Rapant was the owner of a dog that had been declared dangerous at a Select Board hearing last August, after two people reported it had bitten them. At that time, the yellow Lab mix was taken to a pound in a nearby town.

Earlier this week, Town Administrator Dan Nason notified the Select Board that, according to town counsel, the dog became the property of the town at Rapant’s death. Under the terms of an animal claim notice Rapant had filed, Nason wrote he was instructing the animal control officer to take the dog to Buddy Dog in Sudbury. Rapant had adopted the dog there in November 2024.
