In the past week, police made 10 motor vehicle stops, eight resulting in verbal warnings and two in written warnings or citations. Officers also made six well-being checks, responded to two disabled motor vehicles, issued or renewed two firearm permits, and responded to two false burglar alarms.
Tuesday, Sept. 9
At 1:08 a.m. a Harvard officer was called to assist state police who had stopped a car on Ayer Road. At 12:37 p.m. police received the first of several requests this week for well-being checks on a Mass. Ave. resident. A DoorDash driver called with concerns because food packages and other boxes were piling up on the resident’s porch. Police found the person was home but ignoring the deliveries. At 9:13 p.m. a caller reported a large pothole on Route 111 that had caused a flat tire; as that road is a state route, the Department of Transportation was informed.
Wednesday, Sept. 10
At 11 a.m. an officer spoke with a tired driver who had stopped in the Dunkin’ drive-through lane to rest and told him to move to a parking space. At 12:55 p.m. an officer again attempted to remove a dog that the Select Board has declared dangerous from a Mass. Ave. residence; the dog owner said he would call the police back later to pick up the dog, but he did not do so.
Thursday, Sept. 11
At 9:53 a.m. a caller told police a road sign advertising a business had been destroyed on Depot Road. At 11:21 a.m. someone reported a dead cat near the intersection of Still River and Prospect Hill roads; the animal turned out to be a groundhog. At 2:42 p.m. a resident turned in an unwanted gun that had belonged to a deceased family member.
Friday, Sept. 12
At 9:45 p.m. a caller reported hearing gunshots in the area of Littleton Road, but all was quiet when police checked the area.
Saturday, Sept. 13
At 2:25 a.m. the manager of a business on Mass. Ave. in Boxborough asked police to check on an alarm that was sounding at the business; Boxborough police asked Harvard for backup at the scene. At 10:55 a.m. a caller reported a group of BMW’s were speeding toward Ayer; Ayer police were informed. At 2:53 p.m. a caller asked police to be present when she picked up a child in a custody arrangement, because the father was being verbally aggressive.
Sunday, Sept. 14
At 11:13 a.m. an Ayer Road resident complained about barking dogs in the area. At 7:38 p.m. a 911 caller reported several cars stopped on Ayer Road, blocking one lane; the problem turned out to be a disabled motor vehicle rather than a collision.
Monday, Sept. 15
At 2:11 p.m. a 52-year-old Leominster woman received a summons on Ayer Road for driving an uninsured vehicle with a suspended registration; the vehicle was towed. At 11:19 p.m. someone on Eldridge Road complained about a truck parked nearby with loud music playing; the truck had left when police arrived.
