The threat of thunder, lightning, and heavy rain forced officials to abruptly cancel last Saturday’s 2025 District E Central Mass. Division 2 relays at Gardner High School after only two events. But that was time enough for the Bromfield boys and girls 4×1600-meter relay teams to run their races, grab gold, and break the meet record for the longest run of the decades’ old competition.
Bromfield entered two girls teams and one boys team in the May 3 classic. The girls 4x1600m A team, consisting of Rosie Bradley, Christina Kekis, Abby Wool, and Evelyn Wool, placed first with a time of 23 minutes, 15.10 seconds, eclipsing the old record set last year by over 90 seconds and finishing more than a minute ahead of second-place Gardner (24:16.35).
The girls B team of Kate Eriksen, Jacquie Wilkins, Chloe Bradley and Helen Holzmann finished sixth out of the eight teams in the event, showing the strength of Bromfield’s girls distance program.
The boys team of Liam Kemeza, Christian Johannesen, Harrison Binnick, and Ben McWaters also placed first in their event. Their winning time of 18:52.82 was 30 seconds faster than the record set last year by Parker Charter School.
Next up for the teams are a dual meet with Clinton on May 14 and then the District E Central Mass. Division 2 Championship meet at Ayer Shirley High School.
