Led by senior captain Evelyn Wool and junior Rosie Bradley, the Bromfield girls cross-country team won second place in this year’s Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 3 state championship held Saturday afternoon at Devens.
Wool placed second in the race with a time of 18 minutes, 55.57 seconds. Bradley was fifth with a time of 19:39.01. Bromfield’s team score was 133.
Cameron Davis of Oxford won the race with a time 18:20.12. Hamilton-Wenham Regional’s team won the race with a score of 89. Team scores are calculated by adding the places of a team's first five runners to cross the finish line. Each school that qualified for the event was permitted to enter seven athletes.
The boys team placed sixth with 221 points. Sophomore Ben McWaters placed 19th with a time of 17:14.86, followed closely by junior Harrison Binnick in 20th place (17:16.24).
The Division 3 boys race winner was Everette Pacheco of Monument Mountain Regional (16:09.09). Parker Charter is this year’s MIAA Division 3 champion with a team score of 52.
Each year the MIAA cross-country state championship brings together the top 21 teams in each division, plus a couple of wildcards, as well the division’s 30 fastest individuals not affiliated with a team.
