I dropped off a couple of large and clean pieces of Styrofoam today at the town’s DPW facility.
As recipients of shipments and buyers of products from stores, residents of Harvard are at the mercy of the companies that sell products packed in Styrofoam. We all need to dispose of it on a regular basis to keep it from piling up in our basements and garages.
I’d like to suggest a Styrofoam collection day like today every six months, funded by the town budget. Maybe someone else has a detailed analysis to support either more or less frequent Styrofoam collection.
In the meantime, we all have to make noise with legislators and companies that sell Styrofoam-packed products to minimize use of this hazardous material, especially where comparable substitutes are both available and cost-effective.
