Voters at Tuesday’s Town Election approved Ballot Question #1, debt for the $9.89 million renovation of the town’s Department of Public Works facility on Depot Road, 785-503.
They also approved Ballot Question 2A, the $423,902 tax override town officials say is needed to maintain town and school operations at current levels next fiscal year, but rejected Question 2B, denying the DPW, Board of Health, and schools the additional professional staff and administrative help they sought.
Incumbent Moderator Bill Barton was reelected, this time to a three-year term, defeating opponent Brad Besse 835-325 in the only contested election of the night.
Four other candidates, all unopposed, also won seats on town boards: Select Board candidate SusanMary Redinger, School Committee candidates Elizabeth Joyce and Katharine Covino-Poutasse and library trustee Jen Manell.
Three unopposed write-in candidates were also elected: Incumbent Warner Free Lecture Trustees William Salter and Steve Peisch, and first time Library Trustees candidate Linda Lingham.
Of the 4,719 registered voters in Harvard, 1,333 participated in the balloting, 810 in person, 510 by mail and 18 by absentee ballot, for a turnout of 28.2%.
