A process to ensure transparency and inclusivity in search for next administrator
We are writing to express our sincere interest and concern regarding the upcoming hiring process for the town administrator position in Harvard. As residents and stakeholders in our community, we believe it is crucial for this process to be conducted with transparency and inclusivity to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidate who can effectively serve the needs of our town.
Given the significance of the town administrator role in overseeing the day-to-day operations and strategic planning of our town, it is imperative that the hiring process be open and accessible to all qualified individuals. An open hiring process not only fosters trust and confidence among residents but also attracts a diverse pool of candidates with varied backgrounds and experiences, ultimately enhancing the overall effectiveness of our town administration.
We strongly believe that the Select Board should consider the following measures
to ensure an open and transparent hiring process for the town administrator position:
- Engage a qualified search firm to ensure diversity and inclusion, and proactively seek out candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences to promote inclusivity and representativeness within our town administration.
- Publicize the job opening through various channels.
- Establish clear criteria, including clear job requirements, qualifications, and selection criteria to ensure consistency and fairness in evaluating candidates.
- Encourage community engagement and include certain numbers of residents on the search committee.
- Maintain transparency by keeping residents informed about key milestones and decisions throughout the hiring process.
By adopting these measures, the Select Board can demonstrate its commitment to transparency, accountability, and community engagement in the hiring process for the town administrator position.
We believe that an open and inclusive approach will not only attract highly qualified candidates but also strengthen trust and collaboration within our community.
We will share concerns and suggestions indicated above with our Select Board members via a separate email.
