Town has obvious options for MART shuttle parking

February 2, 2024

Here are a few rather obvious suggestions for where Harvard could accommodate parking for people using the new MART shuttle service.

Rather than burden the churches, which are already hard-pressed to accommodate their members, why not simply have people park along Elm Street? Parking is already allowed there; it is centrally located; and it would involve no additional cost to the town or to commuters.

The parking lot at the town beach is also centrally located. It is available for most of the year. During the summer, the high school lot could be used.

The town should approach the owners of the plaza on Ayer Road used by Rollstone Bank and other services. It is plowed and lighted. A similar parking area across from Appleworks currently sits unused. While not centrally located, and probably not free, these properties could be used immediately, giving the town the time to explore other alternatives.
