How would you balance the budget?

February 9, 2024

Our pages have been full of local news these past few weeks that you’ll find only in the Harvard Press. A particular focus of our reporting has been the town’s budget for the coming year and the need for a tax override to balance the largest deficit in recent memory. But we wonder what our readers think. Are they inclined to support a request for additional tax dollars? If cuts are required, where should they be made? Which requests for additional manpower are most deserving? And what can be done to reduce or eliminate future deficits when increases in benefits, salaries, and other costs continue to outpace revenues?

We’d like to hear your thoughts. Our editor, John Osborn, will be at the General Store Monday morning, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. until noon. We invite you to grab a coffee and join him for a conversation about the town’s finances or any other local topic on your mind. It’s all off the record.
