The Ambulance Service responded to 24 calls and transported 16 patients to the hospital, 10 with Advanced Life Support services on board. The ambulance was called to five motor vehicle collisions during this period and provided one lift assist.
The year 2023 was the busiest one on record for the Harvard Fire Department, with some 500 calls. Figures for the year as a whole will be available shortly; however, information on calls during the last two weeks of the year is currently unavailable because new software was installed effective Jan. 1.
Tuesday, Jan. 2
At 1:26 p.m. a fire alarm sounded at a business on Lancaster County Road; the cause was a dirty smoke detector. At 3:40 p.m. a contractor working at a West Bare Hill Road home accidentally set off a fire alarm.
Wednesday, Jan. 3
At 9:17 a.m. an alarm went off briefly at Town Hall for no apparent reason. At 10:07 a.m. Engine 2 went to the scene of the crash on Tahanto Trail and cleaned up fluids. At 1:39 p.m. firefighters were called to assist with an animal rescue on Whitney Road, where a horse had fallen and could not stand. Even with assistance from the District 8 technical rescue team, the firefighters were unable to lift the mare, and a vet had to euthanize her.
Saturday, Jan. 6
At 11:03 p.m. Berlin called for mutual aid at a building fire on Highland Street. The Harvard tanker and crew provided water to extinguish the fire.
Sunday, Jan. 7
At 5:14 a.m. Engine 2 went to the crash at Mass. Ave. and Pond Road to clean up fluids.
