Learn about heat pumps
Meet with volunteer heat pump coaches at the General Store, second floor, on Saturday, Jan. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. (Snow date is Saturday, Jan. 27, 1 to 3 p.m.) The coaches are Harvard residents with knowledge and experience with air source (mini-split or ducted) systems and ground source (aka geothermal) systems. A short introductory overview will be presented, followed by roundtable discussions and questions and answers with the coaches.

Winter exploration for families
The Nashua River Watershed Association will host an outdoor exploration of critters’ winter homes Sunday, Jan. 21, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Bill Ashe Visitor Facility, 80 Hospital Road, Devens. Families with children ages 5 to 8 are invited to explore the wonders of the natural world during NRWA’s free workshop. Winter fun run and 5K
The Running to Class 1-mile fun run and 5K through the center of town take place Sunday, Jan. 28, at noon, at the Bromfield School. This is a self-timed event for walkers and runners of all ages. Preparing the soil for gardening
The Garden Club of Harvard will meet Monday, Jan. 29, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Church, 15 Still River Road. Gretel Anspach, trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and lifetime master gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association, will speak on how the quality of the soil affects plants. The public is welcome.
Jazz Night at Bromfield
The fourth annual jazz night will be held at the Bromfield School cafeteria, from 6:30 to 9 p.m, Friday Feb. 2, featuring Bromfield Middle School and High School jazz ensembles, with a headline performance by Dan Gabel and the Abletones Detect Band. Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for adults, with a $50 family cap and are available at fanfareformusic.org, or at the door. There will be raffle prizes and complimentary food and drinks. Proceeds benefit music programs in the Harvard schools.
SpongeBob musical

Free skating
There will be free ice skating at the Oval Ice Skating Rink, 455 Main Street, Worcester, on Jan. 26, 5 to 9 p.m.; Jan. 27 and 28, 1 to 6 p.m.; and Feb. 16, 5 to 9 p.m.
Complimentary skate rentals will be available to children ages 12 and younger.
