Longtime resident, community volunteer, youth athletic coach

Charles Lewis Sawyer, 78, died peacefully on Sept. 24, 2023, after a brief illness.
Charlie grew up in Harvard, where he attended the Bromfield School. He served in the National Guard and then worked as a lead jet mechanic at Logan Airport for more than 50 years. He lived in Harvard for many years, and served as a volunteer EMT and on the Board of Assessors and Fourth of July Committee, as well as coaching many youth athletic teams.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Batsevitsky of Needham, and his son, Adam Sawyer of Boulder, Colorado; his son-in-law, Greg Batsevitsky; his grandchildren, Rachel Batsevitsky, Josh Batsevitsky, and Eli Sawyer; his sister, Kaye Ward; sister-in-law, Mabel Sawyer; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Doris Sawyer; his brother, Jack Sawyer; and his wife, Gloria Sawyer.
Charlie was a hard-working and kind man, and he was well loved by his friends and family. He will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Fellowship Building, 7 Elm Street in Harvard, at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. All are welcome.
