Take-It-or-Leave-It: Do the right thing
DPW Director Tim Kilhart wants to remind people that the Transfer Station’s Take-It-or-Leave-It area is a place to drop off small items of value that someone else may be able to put to good use. It is not a place for broken, ill-kept items that are of no use to anyone. In an email to the Press, Kilhart wrote:
“We have noticed a significant increase in items that are being left that should have gone into the trash and paid for accordingly. We are asking everyone to put only items in the Take-It-or-Leave-It area that someone might actually use. If it is not in good condition and something that someone can use, it should be disposed of as trash.”
Beach report
The water at the Harvard town beach is sampled weekly for E. coli bacteria during the dates of beach operation. The beach’s E. coli results for the week of Aug. 14 met the standards for use. In addition, a water quality sample was analyzed on Aug. 8, using a fluorometer. The results indicated no harmful levels of cyanobacteria (blue green algae) and water visibility greater than 4 feet; thus all normal activities are permitted. Tour de Cure

Community health survey
The Mass. Department of Public Health is asking residents to complete its Community Health Equity Survey. Results of this online anonymous survey will help the DPH and communities across the state change conditions adverse to health. This survey asks about access to health care and transportation, physical and mental health and well-being, experiences with COVID-19, housing, education, and work. Loaves & Fishes food pantry
This food pantry, located at 234 Barnum Road, Devens, offers drive-thru access for those needing help with groceries. Hours are first Tuesday of the month, 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and third Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. Upcoming dates are Aug. 19, 23, 25, and 30.
