Relocation specialist, volunteer fundraiser, grief counselor

Janet Cartier Gilfix died Aug. 17, 2023, surrounded by family at her home in Harvard. She was 93 years old.

Janet was born in Boston and grew up in the nearby suburb of Newton. She was the beloved wife of the late Sumner L. Gilfix, and the loving mother of Paul Tomasello of Pawtucket, Rhode Island; Jane Tomasello of Wayland; Peter Tomasello of Tucson, Arizona; Jill Tomasello of Acton; and Michael Tomasello of Harvard.

Janet was the daughter of Frederick and Evelyn Cartier, and the sister of the late Frederick Cartier Jr.

She was a graduate of Newton High School and Lasell College.

Janet became a volunteer fundraiser and advocate for the American Heart Association, and a grief counselor for widows and widowers after the death of her first husband, Frank W. Tomasello Jr.

Janet was the office manager for the Arlington Street Church in Boston before she transitioned into real estate and became a relocation specialist, working with various companies to help employees transferring from other states find homes in Massachusetts. While Janet loved her work, her greatest love was always her family and friends.

A gravesite memorial was held Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Bellevue Cemetery, Still River Road in Harvard

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Buddy Dog Humane Society in Sudbury, Emerson Hospital in Concord, or Harvard Ambulance Service in Harvard.
