The Bromfield track and field and baseball teams wrapped up their seasons this week, while the boys and girls tennis and girls lacrosse teams headed deeper into postseason competition.
Bromfield sent four of its qualifying track and field athletes to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Meet of Champions competition. Junior Chris Demetros placed fifth in boys pole vault with a jump of 12 feet, 6 inches, qualifying him for the New England championships in Bangor, Maine, on Saturday, June 10. Grace Beckett placed 12th among 17 competitors in girls pole vault, after the event was postponed for three days due to rain. Junior Colin Harte competed in the 200-meter dash and senior Sam Secor in the 800-meter run, but neither was among the top 10 finishers.
The No. 15 seed boys baseball team (14-4) made it to the MIAA Division 5 state championships for a second year, but lost 7-1 to No. 18 seed Maynard (12-7) in its round of 32 playoff.
Both tennis teams won their “sweet 16” matches and were headed to the MIAA Division 4 quarter finals later in the week.
The girls lacrosse team won its MIAA Division 3 round of 32 championship match against North Middlesex Regional Monday, June 5, and was preparing for a “sweet 16” showdown against Foxborough June 8, a team it beat by one point in last year’s playoffs.
