The boys and girls tennis teams are the 2023 Central Massachusetts Class C champions following their 3-2 wins against the Sutton Sammies and Sutton Suzies Friday, May 26, at Shrewsbury High School.
Bromfield’s first and second girls singles players lost their matches, but the third singles and first and second doubles players won theirs.
Third singles player Sarah Burns defeated Allison DaSilva of Sutton, 6-0, 6-0. The first doubles team of Cassie Fisher and Khivi Nanra defeated Laura Sullivan and Katrina Quill of Sutton, 6-0, 6-1. And the second doubles team of Nora Clarke and Nina Iverson defeated Emily Pietras and Grace Kozaczka of Sutton, 6-4, 6-0.
The boys matches got a late start and didn’t finish up until after 7:30 p.m. First singles player Tim Khuu won his match 6-4, 6-1 and second singles player Aadi Ravindran won his 6-0, 6-2. The team’s victory was cemented by the first doubles duo of Conall Munoz and Sawyer Madison, who won their match 6-2, 6-2.
Both teams qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 4 state tournament. The boys (11-7) are ranked 11th among the 34 schools in their division and were scheduled to play their first match at home against No. 22 seed Littleton (8-8) Wednesday, May 31, at 3:30 p.m..
The girls (16-3) are ranked ninth among the 39 schools in their division. They were scheduled to play a round of 32 match against No. 24 seed Advanced Math and Science Academy (7-11) Wednesday, May 31, at 5:30 p.m.
