The small squad of Bromfield track and field athletes that competed in this year’s District E Division 2 Central Massachusetts championship made up in quality for what it lacked in quantity, winning two events and walking away with medals in 18 others.
Among the 25 schools competing in the annual district championship, the Bromfield boys placed third, and the girls tied for ninth place with Tahanto and Narragansett Regional. Both Bromfield teams entered 10 of the meet’s 17 events. Littleton won the boys competition, while Whitinsville Christian claimed first place among the girls. The championship was organized by the Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors Association and held this year at the new athletic complex at Ayer Shirley High School Saturday, May 13.

Junior Jack Stahl won the 400-meter race for Bromfield with a time of 50.84 seconds, just missing the school record by 0.4 seconds.
Also claiming gold were the boys of the 4×800-meter relay team, led by freshman Christian Johannesen, followed by freshman Liam Kemeza and senior Sam Secor, and anchored by Stahl. The team’s winning time of 8:43.61 set a new meet record, beating the previous record of 8:53.15 set by Littleton last year.
Other athletes distinguished themselves with top 10 performances.
Junior Colin Harte broke the school record in both the 100-meter and 200-meter, winning second place in both events. In the 100-meter, Coach Greg Bourque told the Press, Harte broke the record first in the preliminary rounds, running 11.19 and breaking the old record of 11.38 set by Jordan Colon in 2019. Then in the finals he ran a blazingly fast 11.01, breaking the record he had just set. His fastest time in the 200-meter came in the preliminary rounds where he ran 22.97, breaking the old record of 23.08 set by Patrick Griffin in 2013.
“It was a very impressive day for Colin, without a doubt,” wrote Bourque in an email. “He works hard … and it’s paying off.
Molly Squire (#60) runs to a third-place finish in the girls 4×800-meter relay. Her teammates were Rosie Bradley, Isabel Jackson, and Aubrie Reynolds..
Senior Sam Secor fought hard for his second-place finish in the 800-meter, running in less than 1:59 and finishing just 0.49 seconds behind Bona Bradshaw of Littleton. Bromfield’s other second-place winners were juniors Chris Demetros and Grace Beckett, who finished second in boys and girls pole vault.
The girls 4×800 team placed an impressive third in the event with a time of 10:49.02. Senior Molly Squire led off and then handed to eighth-grader Aubrie Reynolds followed by freshman Rosie Bradley, and finally sophomore Isabel Jackson, who ran the fastest split of the group.
Squire placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal record of 1:15.57, and Reynolds took seventh in the race with a personal record of 1:15.49. The girls were in the same heat in lanes next to each other, Bourque told the Press, and “pushed each other through the whole race, finishing well above their seed times.”
Conditions were tough for the distance team, “being hot and windy,” according to Bourque. But Rosie Bradley took sixth place in the 1-mile while Isabel Jackson took seventh place.
