I am writing to introduce myself and to solicit support for my candidacy as a member of the school committee. My name is Amy Morton, and I live on Ayer Road with my husband, Adam, and our two kids, Kate and Lupine, who attend HES and Bromfield respectively.
Both my experience in working for the town and my career trajectory have prepared me well for this role. I served as the Harvard representative on the Monty Tech school committee for more than three years, from December 2018 to March 2022, where I sat on the Workforce Subcommittee and participated in the contract negotiations for teachers and custodial staff. Since last June I have been a member of the town Finance Committee.
I am passionate about education, having spent 6 years as a K-8 and special education teacher before moving into leadership roles at several educational companies. I have experience in teacher professional development, curriculum development, and educational publishing, and have been an editor and a marketing lead. I most recently served as SVP and Chief of Staff at WPI, a top STEM university in Worcester, where I oversaw Enrollment Management, Strategy and Analytics, Marketing Communications, and Board Operations.
If elected, I will bring a commitment to the town, a collaborative leadership style, and 30 years of experience in education as a classroom teacher and a business leader to the committee. I will work to drive positive outcomes for the children of Harvard, for the teachers and administration and for the school committee.
