Townwide cleanup and garlic mustard pull
This year’s townwide cleanup and garlic mustard pull will take place from May 4 to May 7. Sign up for a road segment at bit.ly/2023Cleanup-GM. Pick up supplies at Westward Orchards, 178 Mass. Ave., May 3, 2 to 4 p.m. and May 6, 9 to 11 a.m. The DPW will pick up bagged trash Monday, May 8. Candidates Night
The League of Women Voters and the Harvard Press will co-host a Candidates Night, Tuesday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. in Town Hall, 13 Ayer Road. The event will take place in person, via Zoom, and on Harvard Cable TV. All uncontested and contested candidates for office in Harvard are invited to participate.
Town Meeting and election
Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 29, at noon, in the Cronin Auditorium in the Bromfield School, 14 Mass. Ave. The warrant may be viewed at tinyurl.com/msdxa3sh. The Press will feature its “Warrant in Plain English” in its April 28 issue.
Town Election will be held Tuesday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Bromfield School cafeteria, 14 Mass. Ave. The last day to register to vote is Wednesday, April 19. Register online at www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/voter-resources/registering-to-vote.htm
Ginny Thurston Scholarship
The Select Board will again offer financial assistance to Bromfield seniors through the Ginny Thurston Scholarship fund.
Interested students should visit the Select Board page on the town website for more details or contact Executive Assistant Julie Doucet at jdoucet@harvard-ma.gov in the Select Board office. Letters of interest are due no later than Friday, April 28.
Beach news
Registration is now open for swimming, sailing, and canoe and kayak lessons, according to Parks and Recreation Commission Chair Bob O’Shea. Visit harvardma.myrec.com to register. There will be three sessions: June 30-July 14, July 17-28, and July 31-Aug.11.
The beach will be staffed with lifeguards from June 24 to Aug. 26. Residents will swim at their own risk before and after this period and after 5 p.m. each day.
Fourth of July meeting
Residents are invited to meet their neighbors and get involved in Fourth of July event planning, Saturday, April 15, from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Harvard General Store, 1 Still River Road. Look for the table with the American flag.
HCT tree-for-all
The Harvard Conservation Trust will distribute spice bush seedlings to Harvard Conservation Trust members at the Hildreth Elementary School Saturday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and in town center, Sunday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are not a member, or wish to renew, please join online at harvardconservationtrust.org.
Loaves & Fishes
This food pantry, 234 Barnum Road, Devens, offers drive-thru access for those needing help with groceries. New hours are first Tuesday of the month, 5 to 7 p.m., and Wednesdays, Fridays, and third Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon. Upcoming dates are April 15, 19, 21, 26, and 28.
