At 11:58 a.m. an alarm went off at a commercial building on Ayer Road, but firefighters found no smoke or fire; they reset the alarm.
Wednesday, April 12
At 11:42 a.m. the tanker and its crew were called to help put out a brush fire in Lancaster, and Harvard Engine 4 covered Lancaster’s central station. At 4:10 p.m. a 911 call came from some workers on Slough Road. They were cutting metal for a fence, and the sparks had set fire to some leaves and grass, burning about 200 square feet; the workers put the fire out, and the duty officer came to the scene to make sure it was fully extinguished.
Thursday, April 13
At 12:10 p.m. firefighters checked on smoke in the Prospect Hill Road area; it turned out to be from brush being burned in Devens.
Friday, April 14
At 3:27 a.m. Harvard firefighters were called to assist at a catastrophic fire in Berlin, where an explosion destroyed a single-family home, killing one person and injuring another. The Harvard tanker and one engine were at the scene for about seven hours, along with firefighters from nine other communities. The cause of the fire and explosion is under investigation, according to The Boston Globe. At 3:39 p.m. Harvard provided coverage for the Lancaster fire station under mutual aid, while Lancaster firefighters were helping put out a brush fire in Sterling. At 7:46 p.m. a smoke machine set off a commercial fire alarm at an Ayer Road building.
Monday, April 17
At 11:49 a.m. the Fire Department’s drone was deployed to help state police search for a dog that had been reported on the median strip of Route 2.
