The annual Harvard Town Election is May 9 and there are 10 positions that will be on the ballot. Voters expect choices on their ballot. Otherwise, what is the point and why bother?
The League of Women Voters of Harvard encourages all residents who are registered voters to seriously think about what role they can fill in our local government. Consider the issues before us and seek where you could participate. Select Board? Library trustees? School Committee? Warner Free Lecture trustees? Town moderator?
Nomination papers are available from Harvard Town Clerk Lynn Kelly at Town Hall and the deadline for submitting them for certification is April 4 at 5 p.m. Yes, you need the signatures of 32 registered Harvard voters, something you can accomplish on a morning outside the Harvard General Store or at the Transfer Station or from your friends and neighbors.
Our community needs broad and diverse participation in our town government to make it work. And we encourage eligible residents to register to vote and cast a ballot at every level. The deadline to register to vote for the annual Town Election is April 19.
