With its schedule disrupted by bad weather, the Littleton/Bromfield/Parker boys ice hockey team played only one game the past week, traveling to battle the powerful nonconference Dedham Marauders Sunday, Jan. 29, losing 2-1.
The Tigers faced a Marauders squad that includes seven seniors who have contributed almost one-third of the team’s goals and assists. The game started off shakily, with the relatively young Tigers struggling to match the Marauders’ speed, and Dedham surged to a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the first period.
The Tigers quickly struck back when Harvard sophomore Zach Lizotte made a crafty pass through the neutral zone, sending Littleton freshman Paul Doyle on a breakaway. Doyle scored with a quick shot above the goalie’s shoulder.
Following the goal, the Tigers settled into a solid style of play, with the entire lineup competing against the Marauders for the remainder of the game. The Tigers had two excellent opportunities to even the score, first with a five-minute power play at the end of the second period and again with six minutes remaining in the third period when the Tigers had a 90-second five-on-three power play.
Unable to capitalize on either opportunity, the Tigers ended up losing 2-1, bringing their overall record to 7-5. The Tigers remain first in the Coughlin League with a 6-0 record and are currently ranked 20th among the 52 schools in Division 4 of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic
Association.
