At 4:50 p.m. Harvard firefighters were dispatched to a crash on Route 2 westbound, but the call was canceled because Littleton was already on the scene and did not need help.
Thursday, Jan. 19
At 1:13 a.m. a fire alarm went off at a house on Park Lane; the duty officer found the smoke detector needed new batteries.
Saturday, Jan. 21
At 5:48 p.m. firefighters were called to a reported crash on Interstate 495 northbound, but the call was canceled by Bolton after finding that the report was mistaken—there was no crash.
Sunday, Jan. 22
At 3:51 p.m. a Clinton Shore Drive resident accidentally set off a smoke alarm while changing its batteries. At 10:40 p.m. a radon detector went off at a Park Lane home because of a power outage. In both cases, the duty officer checked at the houses to make sure all was well.
Monday, Jan. 23
The Fire Department responded to calls too numerous to detail over the course of 24 hours. Many smoke and carbon monoxide detectors were set off by the power failures, and firefighters helped to reset them. The Fire Department was called to five separate crashes on Route 2 within half an hour, and firefighters helped clear debris from the highway. A Fire Department spokesperson said 19 firefighters were on duty from 5 p.m. to midnight, clearing trees from Harvard roads so the snowplow drivers could continue their work. Firefighters received nearly 50 separate calls about fallen trees and downed wires.
