Four of Bromfield’s six fall varsity teams are prepping for state finals this week.
The boys and girls soccer teams have both qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 5 state soccer tournament and are awaiting announcement of their tournament brackets and game dates, to be released Nov. 2. The boys are ranked first in their division and the girls 11th.
The boys and girls cross-country teams—both 2022 Midland-Wachusett Division C champions—are scheduled to race Nov. 12 in the MIAA Division 3 preliminary Wave 3C meet that will determine whether the two teams are invited to compete in the Division 3 state finals the following week.
The golf team’s season ended Oct. 25 with the MIAA state finals played at the Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley, in which Bromfield golfers Evan Piekos and Noah Petrossi were invited to compete as individuals. Piekos tied for fourth place among the 91 players who participated, with a score of 76, 2 over par.
The field hockey squad wrapped up its season by tying Blackstone-Millville 1-1 in a hard-fought Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors Association Class C championship consolation game. The game remained tied after two five-minute overtime periods, but the team lost the final penalty shootout 3-1. With a power ranking of 36 and a 6-10-2 record, the team did not qualify for the MIAA Division 4 field hockey state tournament.
The Press has been following six Bromfield varsity teams this fall, plus the Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowing club. Soon the winter season will be upon us, when we’ll be tracking the varsity basketball, indoor track, ski, and swimming and diving teams. If you’d like to help the paper keep readers informed on their progress, either as a reporter or someone to report match, game and meet results to the Press sports desk, please write editor@harvardpress.net.
