In the past week police made 10 motor vehicle stops; five resulted in verbal warnings and five in written warnings or citations. Officers also responded to one false burglar alarm and issued or renewed one firearm permit. The Ambulance Service was called to five medical emergencies and took five people to the hospital, three with Advanced Life Support services in attendance.
Tuesday, Aug. 30
At 4:19 a.m. Boxborough police asked for help from Harvard officers in confirming that a burglar alarm from a Swanson Road apartment had been set off accidentally. At 2:40 p.m. a mail carrier called after seeing a very sick raccoon on Jacob Gates Road; the animal control officer was notified. At 5:29 p.m. a 911 caller reported a fallen tree blocking one side of Littleton Road; police called the Department of Public Works to remove it. At 6:25 p.m. another fallen tree was found on Shaker Road, and an officer removed it. At 7:31 p.m. a caller complained about two cars parked on Prospect Hill Road, but they were on private property, and so it was not a police matter.
Wednesday, Aug. 31
At 1:25 p.m. Ayer police informed Harvard about an incident of road rage, but Ayer officers spoke with both parties and ultimately handled the matter without Harvard’s assistance.
Thursday, Sept. 1
At 12:58 a.m. a car crashed into a utility pole on Ayer Road. Police, fire, and ambulance crews were all called to the scene. The driver refused ambulance transport, but the car required a tow and the pole had to be replaced. At 10:19 a.m. an officer saw a tree branch on the electric wires on Old Shirley Road; National Grid was informed. At 2:20 p.m. a woman came to the police station with concerns about a check she had received for a car she was selling on Craigslist. Police determined the check was drawn on a bank account that had been hacked. The Harvard resident did not hand over the car, and the bank account’s rightful owner stopped payment on the check, so neither suffered any financial loss. At 3:27 p.m. a Littleton Road resident reported a fraudulent unemployment claim had been filed in their name.
Friday, Sept. 2, and Saturday, Sept. 3

Sunday, Sept. 4
At 10:18 a.m. a 911 caller reported hearing a very loud noise on Mass. Ave. near the center of town. Police searched the area but did not find the source of the noise. At 1:55 p.m. a caller reported a car had struck a mailbox on Tahanto Trail; no one was injured, and the driver agreed to pay for the damage.
Monday, Sept. 5
At 1 p.m. an officer removed a fallen branch that was a hazard to drivers on Whitney Road.
