Be alert to Saturday traffic disruption
The Independence Day parade on Saturday, July, 2, begins at Depot Road at 11 a.m. and ends in the town center. Traffic along the parade route may be affected. (See Current Events for detailed information about Fourth of July activities in town.)
Sportswriting workshop
The Press will offer a free sportswriting workshop this fall, open this year to anyone interested in joining the Press sports reporting team to cover a fall, winter, or spring high school sport. Harvard students are especially welcome. Fall beats will include boys and girls soccer, field hockey, golf, and boys and girls cross-country, as well as rowing. Fireworks ban reminder
It is illegal for private citizens to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Massachusetts or to purchase them legally elsewhere and then transport them into the state. The law prohibits any article designed to produce a visible or audible effect, and fines or imprisonment may result, along with confiscation.
Harvard Schools Trust community survey
Go to harvardschoolstrust.org and click the link on the home page to take the trust’s community survey. Responses will help the trust continue to serve and support the Hildreth Elementary School and the Bromfield School through educational enrichment. The survey should take only five minutes to complete.
Outdoor watering ban in effect
The Water Commission has issued an outdoor watering ban for users of the town water supply. Watering lawns, filling pools, and washing cars and houses are prohibited. The ban is in place until further notice.
Lanternfly alert
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources is asking the public to keep an eye out for the invasive pest known as spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula). Anyone who has recently purchased trees or shrubs or had them planted on their property, particularly maple or crabapple trees, is being asked to inspect the trunk and branches to ensure there are no egg masses or any hitchhiking nymphs. FinCom seeks new members
The town is seeking people to serve on the Finance Committee. Committee members are appointed by the town moderator and oversee preparation of the town’s annual budget. The committee’s job is to recommend a budget for the coming fiscal year that is responsible and balanced, providing funding for necessary existing services, investing in additional new services as needed, while mindful of taxpayers’ dollars over the short and long terms.
