In an exciting finale to their season, Bromfield’s baseball players narrowly defeated Marlborough 7-6 when a Bromfield runner was able to score on a wild pitch thrown in the bottom of the ninth inning. With a 9-8 season record, the Trojans ranked 23rd in the latest Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 5 power rankings, earning a place for the team in the upcoming statewide spring tournament.
The boys and girls tennis teams both advanced to the finals in the Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors Association Class C tennis tournament last week but were defeated in their championship matches, the girls giving up their 2021 CMADA title. Both teams have qualified for the MIAA Division 4 statewide finals to be held in June.
And the girls lacrosse team is riding high this week after trouncing Shrewsbury 18-4 in the CMADA Class A Memorial Day semifinal match. The team will play its final CMADA match against Grafton (18-2) on Monday, June 6. In the latest MIAA power rankings, the Trojans were rated third among the 51 teams of Division 3.
The Press is following six Bromfield varsity teams this spring, plus the Bromfield Acton-Boxborough rowing club. If you’d like to help, either as a reporter or a stringer, please write editor@harvardpress.net.
