All six Bromfield varsity teams have made it to this year’s Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association statewide tournaments.
The track and field teams wrapped up their season two weeks ago, but the baseball, lacrosse, and tennis tournaments are just getting underway. This year, for the first time, every school in the state has been assigned to a division determined by its size, regardless of location. The number of divisions for each sport is determined by the total number of schools competing in a category; some sports have more divisions than others. An early round competition can require a team to travel halfway across the state to meet its opponent, though the association does its best to choose venues that minimize the time a team spends traveling on a bus.
On Tuesday, the Bromfield baseball squad upset Frontier Regional 2-1 in an away game at Deerfield. “It was a two-hour bus ride, but worth it,” said Coach Lonnie Quirion. Having already beaten Boston Collegiate Charter, the win advances the Trojans to the MIAA Division 5 round of 16, in which the team was scheduled to play No. 11 seed Douglas on June 8 at Soldiers Field in Douglas.
The girls and boys tennis teams have won their initial MIAA playoffs as well and advanced to round of 16 matches this week. The girls lacrosse players, however, wrapped up their central Massachusetts playoffs just this week with a hard-fought 9-8 victory over Grafton, winning the 2-year-old Central Massachusetts Athletic Directors Association Class A championship for a second time. The team was expecting to play its first MIAA match this week at a time and place yet to be determined.

Boys Outdoor Track (0-5, 0-5)
- 6/3 and 6/6: MIAA Meet of Champions. Junior Sam Secor placed 18th, and sophomore Jack Stahl placed 21st in the 800-meter among the 26 best runners in the state. The Bromfield 4 x 800 relay team of eighth-grader Harrison Binnick, Secor, eighth-grader Christian Johannesen, and Stahl placed 21st among 22 competing teams. See story on page 18.
