The arrival of June is always a moment of sweet sadness at the Press as we say goodbye to graduating students we have come to know over the years, while greeting new arrivals.
Olivia Ren has been writing for the paper since her sophomore year, contributing to last year’s award-winning Press series on diversity, equity, and inclusiveness programs in Harvard’s schools and more recently producing Harvard Voices, interviews with less frequently heard members of our community. It’s been a privilege to work with Olivia, and we wish her the very best as she heads to college this fall. We also wish all the best to Robin Calabresi, who took sports photos for us her freshman year, and to Erin Flynn, a Press sports writer extraordinaire during her sophomore and junior years.
As we say goodbye to our seniors, we say hello to the largest class of student summer interns the Press has ever accepted. They are Grace Fiori, a journalism major at UMass Amherst; Andrew Eliesionis, an economics major, and Nicholas Valdez, an English major, both from Fitchburg State; and Rebecca Zhang, a graduating senior at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Interning at the Press allows aspiring journalists to gain practical reporting experience with a local paper while providing the Press with extra talent to tackle stories that are difficult to cover, given our small but committed staff and the relentless pace of the weekly news cycle. We’re glad to have them in our ranks this summer. Watch for their bylines.
