Many events are planned for the Hildreth House porch this month, and most programs are now taking place in person. Call 978-456-4120 to sign up for all programs, classes, and trips.


Make-your-own-sandwich lunch

On Tuesday, June 21, at noon, make your own sandwich and enjoy it on the front porch of Hildreth House, 15 Elm Street. At 1 p.m. local band Contra Banditos will provide the entertainment. Signup by June 15 required.


A legal checkup

Join elder law attorney Nancy Chew as she explains essential planning documents to have in place as we age. She will cover power of attorney, health care proxy, how to avoid probate, and more. Thursday, June 16, 1 p.m. at Hildreth House. Call to sign up at 978-456-4120.


Ice cream social

Enjoy an ice cream sundae, the sunshine, and visit with friends, Wednesday, June 15 at 2 p.m., on the porch. Doug and Dee Lee will lead the ice cream brigade while Debbie Thompson’s band Side Effects serenades the group. Sign up by June 10 for this event, free for all Harvard seniors and volunteers.


Library books at home

If you are housebound and need books delivered to your home, call the library at 978-456-4114 and ask for Jill, or email reference@harvardpubliclibrary.org.


Meals presentation and luncheon

On Thursday, June 9, at noon, Heart to Home Meals will offer a free hot lunch at Hildreth House. RSVP required as space is limited. Call 978-456-4120 to reserve either a crumb-topped cod in lemon sauce or chicken teriyaki lunch. Heart to Home also offers frozen meals.


Wreath door hanging

Pat Cooper and Carol Lee Tonge will guide a wreath-hanging project at Hildreth House, Tuesday, June 7, at 1 p.m. This will be a July Fourth-themed wreath to display as we move into the summer months. Cost is $10 per participant. Class size is limited to 10 participants. Call 978-456-4120 prior to dropping off your check made out to Harvard Council on Aging. Space is limited.


Luncheon by RiverCourt Residences

On Thursday, June 23, at noon, enjoy a meal sponsored by RiverCourt Residences in Groton. They will bring lunch to enjoy on the wraparound porch at Hildreth House. Sign up by June 17.


Bowling anyone?

The new bowling alley, 204 Lanes, has opened at 204 Ayer Road, and Tuesday mornings are available for a senior league.Three to five bowlers are needed to get started, and the COA will pay for the summer. Enjoy the AC and some good times. Call 978-456-4120 to sign up.


Help with computers

Adam and Doug are available for one-on-one sessions via Zoom to assist seniors with computer issues. Access their online computer resource center at sites.google.com/view/hcoa-lab. Stay tuned for an upcoming computer class on protecting yourself against scams in July.


Stretch away your stress

Stress-reduction yoga with Barbara Rich takes place Wednesday, June 22, at 5 p.m. via Zoom.

With a high stress level still a part of our lives, the COA continues to offer a one-time stress reduction class. Connect breath, mind, senses, and body while paying attention to any judgmental thoughts and feelings. Leave the self-judgment behind. Call the COA to sign up for this free class.


COA van guidelines

There is a nominal fee for the use of the van; payment in exact change is expected at the time of a ride. To schedule a ride call 978-456-4120; 48 hours notice is requested. Face coverings are required for all individuals on public and private transportation regardless of vaccination status. The van is disinfected daily and between riders; driver and riders are required to use hand sanitizer and wear a mask.


Outreach programs

The COA offers home-delivered meals, friendly visits, phone and wellness checks, social services, chore groups and handyman services, and more. Call 978-456-4120 for services.


Fitness classes

Fitness classes are being offered online via Zoom unless otherwise noted. Call the COA to sign up or to learn more about fitness classes.

  • Weight strengthening/aerobics: Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.
  • Zumba Gold: Wednesday, 10 a.m. (in-person classes in Bolton; call the Bolton COA at 978-779-3314).
  • Line dancing, Monday, 10:15 a.m.
  • Yoga for everybody, Tuesday, 9:30 a.m.
  • Tai Chi, Thursday, 9 a.m., Congregational Church of Harvard, 5 Still River Road.

Other regular programs

Most programs are now in person at Hildreth House, 15 Elm Street.

  • Vet Cafe: Second Tuesday of the month, 9 a.m. Join fellow veterans for coffee and conversation.
  • Men’s coffee: Wednesdays, 9 a.m.
  • Women’s coffee: Fridays, 10 a.m.
  • Mahjong in the parlor: Thursdays at 1 p.m.
  • Fiber arts and knitting: Thursdays at 1 p.m. in the living room.
  • Afternoon bridge: Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m.
  • Men’s bridge: Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.
  • Podiatry clinic, Monday, June 13, 9 a.m. to noon. Call to schedule an appointment with Dr. Gregorian. Fee is $35.
  • Weekly grocery shopping, Market Basket, Littleton: Pickup times: Friday, 9:30 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Call the COA to reserve a place in the van. All riders must wear a mask while in the van.
