The state reported six new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending April 23, five fewer cases than the previous week, bringing the town’s cumulative number of state-reported cases since the pandemic began to 605. For the week beginning May 1, Harvard Public Schools reported 15 students and eight staff were out with COVID-19, eight more students and four more staff than last week.
Between April 26 and May 2, the state reported 18,288 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, up from 14,449 new cases the previous week. There were 534 hospitalizations reported on May 2, 122 more than a week earlier. The number of ICU patients increased from 29 to 44 during the week ending May 2. The state reported 43 deaths during that same week, seven fewer than the previous week.
The percentage of the 5,373 Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated as of April 26 was 86.4% and the partially vaccinated percentage was 9.3%. As of April 26, 3,154 residents had received at least one booster dose. Vaccination numbers in the state report for Harvard do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
On May 3 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported no new COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, one fewer than the previous week. There were three cases among staff, one more than a week earlier. Since the pandemic began, 382 of the current inmates and 192 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
Note that case numbers reported by the state do not include people who tested positive with only an at-home test.
