The state reported 11 new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending April 16, the same number of cases as the previous week. The town’s cumulative number of state-reported cases since the pandemic began is now 599. For the week beginning April 25, Harvard Public Schools reported seven students and four staff were out with COVID-19.
Between April 19 and April 25, the state reported 14,449 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, up from 13,915 new cases the previous week. There were 412 hospitalizations reported on April 25, 84 more than the previous week, but the number of ICU patients decreased from 35 to 29 during the week ending April 25.
The percentage of Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated as of April 19 increased to 86.3% and the partially vaccinated percentage dropped to 9.4% as 10 more residents became fully vaccinated since April 12. Between April 13 and April 19, 18 residents received a booster dose of the vaccine. The state report does not distinguish between first and second boosters in its numbers. Vaccination numbers in the state report for Harvard do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
On April 26 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported one new COVID-19 case among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, after five weeks of no cases. There were two cases among staff, the same number as the previous week. Since the pandemic began, 381 of the current inmates and 191 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
Note that case numbers reported by the state do not include people who only tested positive with an at-home test.
