Father of resident, systems engineer

Richard W. Wright, 88, died in Fort Myers, Florida, on Feb. 4, 2022. He was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Huntington, West Virginia, the son of Leo and Marie (Moruney) Wright.
After serving in the United States Army, Richard graduated from Marshall University, Class of 1957, and was married to the love of his life, Avis U. Joseph, for 64 years. Together, they raised their family in Concord, Massachusetts.
Richard, the perfect “Daddy” of girls, was known for his devotion to his four daughters, otherwise known as the “4Ks” (Kendra, Kateri, Kim, and Kirsten). Recognized for his dedication, wisdom, and mentorship of young engineers throughout the years, Richard spent his entire professional career working for Raytheon Corporation as a systems engineer, where he worked on the team that developed the Patriot missile. In 1996, Richard and Avis lived their dream, enjoying a 25-year retirement together in Fort Myers filled with sunshine, family, and good times.
Richard was predeceased by his sisters, Pat and Rosemary, and his brothers, James Leo and Paul. Surviving, in addition to his wife Avis (Joseph) Wright, are his brothers, David and his wife, Dorothy Lynn, and Joseph and his wife, Joan; four daughters, Kendra, Kateri and her husband John Scriven, Kimberly and her husband Foster Robinson, and Kirsten and her husband Dan D’Amore of Harvard; five grandsons, Joseph D’Amore, Garrett and Dillon Robinson, John Scriven, and Justin Miller; and three great-grandsons, Reid Robinson, Porter Robinson, and Woody Robinson.
A private and humble service reflective of Richard’s life will be held in March. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marshall University Foundation (please specify Richard William Wright Patriot Engineering Scholarship in memo area), 519 John Marshall Drive, Huntington, WV 25703.
