The hills are alive
The Bromfield School Drama Society presents “The Sound of Music,” Friday, March 25, 7 p.m., Saturday, March 26, 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 27, 2 p.m., in the Cronin Auditorium. Garden Club program to focus on native plants
Jessie Panek, experienced gardener and longtime instructor with the Native Plant Trust, will discuss the role of native plants in the garden. What is a “native” and why is it crucial that we plant more of them? The meeting will be held Monday, March 28, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church. The public is welcome; masks are required in the meeting hall.

Story time walk for kids
The Harvard Conservation Trust presents a storybook trail featuring “The Mitten” by Jan Brett, through Saturday, April 2. Drop in any time from dawn until dusk at the Burgess-Brown land; the trailhead is at the end of Murray Lane. An easy half-mile hike goes through an open meadow, meanders into the forest, and passes a mysterious boulder field. The book is based on a popular Ukrainian fairy tale and follows one lost mitten and a group of curious forest animals as they prepare for winter.
World War II program
Harvard resident Jack Wilson, co-author of “All Souls Day: The World War II Battle and the Search for a Lost U.S. Battalion,” will speak Monday, April 4, 12:30 p.m., at St. Theresa Catholic Church, in a Harvard Woman’s Club program. All are welcome; masks required.
Walk to vernal pools
The Land Stewardship Subcommittee of the Conservation Commission will host a 2½-mile walk Sunday, April 10, on the Black Pond and Vesenka lands. Attendees will walk through a landscape of striking geology and botanical beauty, including a visit, accompanied by wetlands scientist Matthew Varell, to a cluster of vernal pools, where some amphibians begin their lives. Walkers are asked to meet at 1:30 p.m. at Friendly Crossways, 247 Littleton County Road and to leave dogs at home. For more information contact jamesadelson@charter.net.

Nature events
The Sudbury Valley Trustees, which conserves open space and farmland in 36 communities around the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord rivers, has released its spring calendar of nature-themed outings and programs, including nature walks at properties in Littleton, Berlin, Upton, Acton, and Wayland. On Earth Day, Friday, April 22, there will be free group walks in Framingham, Harvard, and Wayland to celebrate nature.
