The Bromfield girls and boys track teams each took fifth in their division, Feb. 5, wrapping up the indoor season for most athletes.
The Trojans lined up with the other five teams of the Midland-Wachusett League Division D on Saturday, after the meet—originally scheduled for Feb. 4—had been postponed due to weather. Athletes vied for the top six spots in each event to secure points for their team, competing at the Fitchburg High School track.
Senior Pariss Eang Lee, who played a key role for the team all season, was once again an asset to the Trojans, scoring 23 points across four events. Eang Lee took second in the 55-meter dash in 8.10 seconds and third in the 55-meter hurdles in 10.56. On the field she was runner-up once again, clearing 4 feet, 8 inches in the high jump, putting her behind Maynard High School senior Liz Freeman’s 5-2. Her throw of 20-3 in the shot put landed her sixth.
Sophomore Gretchen Day added two points to the team score with a fifth-place finish in the 300 in 49.77. Seventh-grader Gabriella Temps and eighth-grader Anoushka Kolli were fifth and sixth in the 1000, running 3:51.10 and 4:18.19. In the mile, sophomore Marissa Flynn ran 7:36 for sixth.
Day, Temps, Kolli, and Violet Thomas banded together in the 4×400-meter relay to claim second in 5:23.97, behind Maynard’s 5:12.81.
The team’s final score of 37 points put it behind Narragansett High School (120), Ayer Shirley Regional High School (111), Maynard High School (50), and Murdock High School (39), and ahead of Clinton High School (7).
On the boys side, sophomore Colin Harte took second in the 300 (41.01) and the 55, running 7.09 in the latter to fall to Clinton senior Elvis Velez (7.03) by six-tenths of a second. Senior Jacob Pulido also put up points in the 55, taking fifth in 7.42. In the mile, eighth-grader Christian Johannesen was fourth in 5:35.53. Eighth-grader Liam Kemeza lost a close finish in the 2-mile, running 11:40.53 and crossing just behind Ayer Shirley junior Patrick Bergin’s 11:39.38.
The boys 4×200 team of Pulido, freshman Adrian Erdogus-Brady, seventh-grader Liam Liang, and eighth-grader Parker Kimball placed sixth. Maynard won the event in 1:52.42, just edging out Ayer Shirley’s 1:52.99.
The Trojans boys finished with 33 points, putting them behind Ayer Shirley (112), Clinton (83), Maynard (61), Narragansett (43), and ahead of Murdock (27).
Athletes that met the qualifying standards for the District E meet are scheduled to compete again Feb. 12.
