The state reported 30 new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Jan. 22, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases to 516. For the week beginning Jan. 31, the Harvard Public Schools reported 25 students and three staff out with COVID-19.
According to the state’s weekly vaccination report, 4,597 residents in Harvard were fully vaccinated as of Jan. 26, up 16 from Jan. 18. Another 557 had received one dose of a two-dose vaccine, and 2,942 residents had received a booster dose, an increase of 63 since Jan. 18. Using the town clerk’s Nov. 8 population data, the percentage of Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated as of Jan. 26 remains at 85%, and the partially vaccinated percentage remains at 10%. These numbers do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
Between Jan. 25 and Feb. 1, the state reported 38,470 confirmed COVID-19 cases, down from 74,598 the previous week. As of Feb. 1, 1,965 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, 723 fewer than on Jan. 25, and 307 patients were in ICUs, 92 fewer than a week earlier. There were 399 COVID-related deaths between Jan. 25 and Feb. 1, down from 610 the previous week.
On Feb. 1 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported 27 COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, two more than the previous week, and 22 cases among staff, 10 more than the previous week. Since the pandemic began, 358 of the current inmates and 136 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
