The state reported five new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Feb. 12, down from 13 new cases a week earlier. This brings the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases to 553. There were no test results for the Harvard Public Schools this week due to school vacation.
According to the state’s weekly vaccination report, 4,608 residents in Harvard were fully vaccinated as of Feb. 15. Another 546 had received one dose of a two-dose vaccine, and 3,029 residents had received a booster dose, an increase of 28 since Feb. 7. Using the town clerk’s Nov. 8 population data, the percentage of Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated as of Feb. 15 is 85.8%, and the partially vaccinated percentage remains at 10%. These numbers do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
Between Feb. 14 and Feb. 21, the state reported 10,080 confirmed COVID-19 cases, down from 13,226 the previous week. As of Feb. 21, 573 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, 309 fewer than on Feb. 14, and 113 patients were in ICUs, 55 fewer than a week earlier. There were 167 COVID-related deaths between Feb. 14 and Feb. 21, down from 339 the previous week.
On Feb. 22 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported nine COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, seven fewer than the previous week, and 11 cases among staff, four fewer than the previous week. Since the pandemic began, 386 of the current inmates and 169 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
