The state reported 19 new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Jan. 29, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases to 535. For the week beginning Feb. 7, the Harvard Public Schools reported nine students and four staff out with COVID-19.
According to the state’s weekly vaccination report, 4,602 residents in Harvard were fully vaccinated as of Feb. 1, up five from Jan. 26. Another 552 had received one dose of a two-dose vaccine, and 2,981 residents had received a booster dose, an increase of 39 since Jan. 26. Using the town clerk’s Nov. 8 population data, the percentage of Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated as of Feb. 1 is 85.7%, and the partially vaccinated percentage remains at 10%. These numbers do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
Between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, the state reported 22,514 confirmed COVID-19 cases, down from 38,470 the previous week. As of Feb. 7, 1,325 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 in Massachusetts, 640 fewer than on Jan. 31, and 217 patients were in ICUs, 90 fewer than a week earlier. There were 393 COVID-related deaths between Jan. 31 and Feb. 7, slightly down from 399 the previous week.
On Feb. 8 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported 24 COVID-19 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, three fewer than the previous week, and 23 cases among staff, one more than the previous week. Since the pandemic began, 366 of the current inmates and 153 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
