Former resident, computer systems analyst

William (Bill) H. Campbell Jr. died at home in Exeter, New Hampshire, on Dec. 22, 2021, after a long illness. He was 76 years old.
Bill was born and raised in Sheridan, Wyoming, the son of William (Hill) and Daurice Campbell. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire, where he was a member of the ROTC and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force after graduation.
It did not take long for this transplanted westerner to become an avid New England sports fan, cheering on the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. Bill worked as a computer systems analyst and was self-employed for many years. For much of the ’80s he was a dedicated band parent in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, taking part enthusiastically in the yearly fundraiser delivering submarine sandwiches to the entire school district on Super Bowl Sunday.
Prior to his recent return to New Hampshire, Bill was a near three-decade resident of Harvard, where he and his wife raised their daughter, and fed generations of birds, and many a deer tick. Bill loved folk music, West Coast jazz, mystery novels, really bad puns, and the cats he spoiled rotten over the years. A Fourth of July baby, he took great delight in playing Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture on his birthday, cranking up the volume for all to hear, whether they wanted to or not.
Bill is survived by his wife of 31 years, Barbara; his son Bryan Campbell and wife Jenny O’Dell of Eliot, Maine; daughter Stephanie Cava of Dillon, Colorado; granddaughters Sophia and Maren Hennessy, and Lucy Bannon, and grandsons Desmond and Jude Bannon also of Eliot, Maine. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Carlisle of Gillette, Wyoming, and was predeceased by his brother James Campbell.
