Bromfield’s girls swimmers and divers added a fifth win (102-74) to their undefeated streak in a dual meet against Westborough High School on senior night, Jan. 12. The boys fell 96-74 to the Rangers, putting their season record at 2-3.
Bromfield athletes swim as part of a mixed-school team with teammates from Littleton High School and Ayer Shirley Regional High School.
The girls took first in eight of 12 events, sweeping in the 100-yard breaststroke and taking first in both the 200-medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Both relays qualified for the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association sectional tournament.
In celebration of senior night—a tradition honoring the last time graduating athletes compete in a home meet—Coach Sabiha Madraswalla put together an all-senior team of Akshaya Naapa Ramesh, Regan Donahoe, Courtney Clark, and Lorelei Folger, which placed third in the 200-freestyle relay.
Three athletes also qualified for sectionals in individual events. Folger’s performances in the 50 freestyle and junior Sierra Quinty’s time in the 100 butterfly landed them each a spot in the postseason meet. Both Folger and Quinty also qualified in the 100 breaststroke. Bromfield sophomore Annika Roriquenz—who is competing in her first diving season—met the qualifying standard in the 1-meter dive, though MIAA rules require divers to hit the mark twice before gaining a spot at sectionals.
While the boys came in behind Westborough, three swimmers earned first-place finishes and Coach Madraswalla said the athletes competed well.
Freshman Vance Petrossi was first in two events, qualifying for sectionals in the 100 breaststroke and missing the mark in the 50 freestyle by two-tenths of a second.
Sophomore Ryan Donahoe also had a successful day, swimming his first 200 individual medley of the season but still managing to top the field. Freshman Isaac Xu earned first in the 200 freestyle.
The team competed again Jan. 15, in a dual meet against Nashoba Regional High School at the Atkinson Swimming Pool in Sudbury. The girls won 103.5-76.5 and the boys won 101-19.
