The state reported 50 new COVID-19 cases in Harvard for the week ending Jan. 15, bringing the town’s cumulative number of confirmed cases to 486. For the week beginning Jan. 24, the Harvard Public Schools reported 28 students and 2 staff out with COVID-19.
According to the state’s weekly vaccination report, 4,581 residents in Harvard were fully vaccinated as of Jan. 18, up 6 from Jan. 11. Another 551 had received one dose of a two-dose vaccine, and 2,879 residents had received a booster dose, an increase of 152 since Jan. 11. Using the town clerk’s Nov. 8 population data, the percentage of Harvard residents eligible for the vaccine (5 and older) and fully vaccinated as of Jan. 18 remains at 85%, and the partially vaccinated percentage remains at 10%. These numbers do not include Devens residents or inmates at its Federal Medical Center.
Statewide, between Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, confirmed COVID-19 cases increased by 74,598, down from the previous week’s increase of 110,258. As of Jan. 25, 2,688 patients were hospitalized for COVID-19 statewide, down 504 from a week earlier; 399 patients were in ICUs, 67 fewer than the previous week. There were 610 COVID-related deaths between Jan. 18 and Jan. 25, up from 222 the previous week.
On Jan. 25 the Federal Bureau of Prisons website reported 25 cases among inmates at the Federal Medical Center in Devens, three more than the previous week, and 12 cases among staff, six fewer than the previous week. Since the pandemic began, 351 of the current inmates and 128 staff have recovered from COVID-19; 13 inmates died of the virus.
