The top seeded Bromfield boys soccer team narrowly defeated the No. 3 Douglas Tigers 1-0 in overtime this evening at Doyle field in Leominster, bringing home their fourth consecutive state championship.
Senior co-captain Ryan McNulty scored the winning goal on a pass from midfielder Amlyl AitDowd with three minutes remaining in the sudden-death overtime period, ending a defensive battle that left both teams scoreless at the end of regular play. It was the second meeting between the two teams which battled earlier this month for the Central Mass Division 3 title. This time the match was to determine who would be the first-time state champion of the MIAA’s new Division 5.
