Another fabulous Flea Market for the history books! After 49 years, this annual event has become a townwide celebration that we all anticipate and enjoy. The center of town comes alive and marks a perfect New England tradition.
A big project like the Flea Market doesn’t just happen—it’s people power that drives the fun. And there are many, many people to thank for their participation, support, and enthusiasm. Our organizations depend on the proceeds to fund our town activities, and we are grateful.
Special thanks to our cheerful and dependable gate volunteers, who always manage a smile while managing crowds, and to our 23 Bromfield student volunteers who always brighten up the entrance gates. Thanks to Carlson Orchards, our volunteers enjoyed the apples donated for the gift bags.
The DPW helps in so many ways without fanfare, but always with fencing, trash barrels, hauling, and field maintenance. We couldn’t do without them. And thanks to the Fire Department for the generally thankless job of flying the Flea Market banner every year without fail. And thanks to Parks and Rec for helping us get a deal on the portable restrooms.
The Flea Market virtually takes over the grounds of the library and schools, and we can always count on their support. This year, the field tents had to come down, field hockey and other sports needed rescheduling, and use of the middle school facilities had to be arranged.
Because the Bromfield playing fields are a shared resource, we make every effort possible to protect the turf during the Flea Market, and this year Acorn Tree & Landscaping and H.M. Flagg Tree Service donated the use of their drive-on mats in case of wet ground. Fortunately we didn’t need them this year, but we are grateful to have had them.
