Speed limits should be lowered on Old Shirley and Stow roads

September 23, 2021

I am surprised that Old Shirley Road wasn’t identified as a road for a proposed speed limit. When I moved to Old Shirley Road, the road was posted at 30 mph. Today Old Shirley Road is a cut-through between Route 2 and Bolton, Route 117, and Clinton, as well as to the Prospect Hill overlook. We have considerably more and faster traffic than we had 10 years ago.

There are also two or three accidents a year on the road. Were accident statistics used to identify which roads should have reduced speed limits? I would think that such data would make Old Shirley Road and Stow Road at Murray Lane strong candidates for lower speed limits.
