In the past week, police made 11 motor vehicle stops, all resulting in verbal warnings, as part of daily enforcement patrols based on local complaints about speeding cars. Officers also helped out one person who was locked out of a vehicle and responded to three false burglar alarms. Emergency responders received three medical calls and took two people to area hospitals; one person needed only a lift assist.
Tuesday, Sept. 7
At 9:28 a.m. a Slough Road resident called with suspicions about an official-looking letter he had received from New York state, claiming he had unpaid parking tickets; he suspected it was a scam. At 1:20 p.m. police followed up on last week’s hit-and-run incident in a parking lot on Ayer Road.
Wednesday, Sept. 8
At 11:29 a.m. Shirley police requested assistance in speaking with someone in Harvard who had been in a Shirley home the day before when shots were fired at the house. At 12:31 p.m. a car struck a fallen tree near the intersection of Ayer and Poor Farm roads.
Thursday, Sept. 9
At 7:55 a.m. someone called 911 with suspicions about a car lingering in the Trail Ridge Way area. Police located the car about two hours later and found the driver was a licensed private investigator. At 3:26 p.m. a caller reported debris in the roadway near the Ayer town line, and police referred the matter to the Department of Public Works. At 9:08 p.m. a caller reported a downed tree branch on Shaker Road.
Friday, Sept. 10
At 3:11 p.m. a 911 caller reported items including tools strewn on Route 2 westbound; state police were informed.
Saturday, Sept. 11
At 11:18 a.m. someone came to the police station, saying another driver had tried to force him off the road. Police say it was an incident of road rage that began near the Ayer rotary and ended with a shouting match in a parking lot near Route 2. Police spoke to both drivers. At 1:31 p.m. people working at the post office on Ayer Road reported a person banging on the doors and windows, upset about keys he thought he had left inside; the person had left when police arrived. At 11:06 p.m. a Park Lane resident called 911, saying he had heard five shots fired somewhere along the ridge east of his house; police searched the area but found nothing amiss.
Sunday, Sept. 12
At 9:35 a.m. a caller said a black and white dog without a collar was running loose on Warren Avenue; the animal control officer was notified. At 11:54 p.m. Ayer police asked for assistance from Harvard officers in dealing with an intoxicated man who was trying to get into someone else’s house.
Monday, Sept. 13
At 5:54 p.m. police were called to a home where a man was threatening to commit suicide; he was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
