In the past week, police made 12 motor vehicle stops, resulting in eight verbal warnings and four written warnings or citations. They also responded to three calls from drivers locked out of their cars and two false burglar alarms. Officers issued or renewed five firearms permits. Emergency responders received seven medical calls and took five people to area hospitals, two with Advanced Life Support services on board. One person refused transport, and another needed only a lift assist.
Tuesday, Aug. 24
At 4:29 p.m. someone came to the police station to report finding trash dumped at the parking area for Horse Meadows Knoll conservation land on Sherry Road. At 7:42 p.m. a speeding motorcyclist near the Prospect Hill overlook fled from police and continued through Bolton and Lancaster. Harvard police had noted the 19-year-old Lancaster man’s license plate number and issued a summons charging him with speeding, failure to stop for police, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Wednesday, Aug. 25
At 7:36 a.m. a person on Still River Road reported a death that had taken place during the night; as no medical person was in attendance, an investigation is required. At 11:05 a.m. a 911 caller reported a horse loose on East Bare Hill Road; the animal was soon rounded up and returned to its owner. At 5:32 p.m. an officer checking on the Oak Ridge Observatory on Pinnacle Road saw a car pull into the driveway. The officer told the occupants to leave, as they were trespassing.

Friday, Aug. 27
At 1:06 p.m. police found that someone had kicked in the door of a Depot Road house. At 5:05 p.m. a 911 caller reported a break-in at a house on Mass. Ave. On the department’s Facebook page, police said that similar incidents had taken place in Ayer and Lancaster and wrote, “We ask that residents remain vigilant and be aware of suspicious activity in your neighborhood.”
Saturday, Aug. 28
At 12:09 p.m. a person came to the police station to say a drone was flying around the center of town near Town Hall. Police located the person controlling the drone and explained that Federal Aviation Administration rules require a license to operate a drone, as well as advance notification to the FAA. At 2:06 p.m. a caller reported a car had hit a raccoon; an officer had to put down the injured animal.
Sunday, Aug. 29
At 12:44 a.m. a resident on Under Pin Hill Road reported hearing gunshots, followed by the sound of a car speeding away; police searched the area but did not find the car. At 10:16 a.m. an officer served a restraining order at an Ayer Road address. At 3:12 p.m. an Orchard Hill resident called police about an unfamiliar car in the driveway; police spoke with the driver, who was looking for a person at another address. At 7:39 p.m. someone called 911 to report a one-car crash; the driver had fallen asleep and then ran off the road, striking a stone wall; no one was injured, but it took a crane to lift the car back to the road so it could be towed away. At 8:59 p.m. a person called 911 about cars driving around the parking lot at Bowers Brook Apartments on Ayer Road; police found nothing amiss.
Monday, Aug. 30
At 11:24 a.m. a caller reported lumber worth about $600 had been stolen from a yard on Pinnacle Road. At 3:44 p.m. police received a call about a hit-and-run collision in the parking lot at Sorrento’s on Ayer Road; a tow truck struck another vehicle but then left the scene. At 3:44 p.m. a Littleton County Road resident reported a tree had fallen in the roadway, but a neighbor had cut up and removed the hazard.
